Waddell & Reed opening branch in Plaza Vista

The Plaza Vista office project has picked up its first new tenant since the Polsinelli law firm occupied most of the office building completed last year near the Country Club Plaza.

Waddell & Reed is opening a 15-person branch on the first floor of the 10-story office tower at the corner of 48th Street and Belleview Avenue. Construction already has begun, and the 5,200 square-foot office is expected to open Aug. 1.

It will be the Overland Park-based financial service firm’s third customer service office in the area. The others are in Leawood and Independence.

“We’re pleased to bring Waddell & Reed to the Plaza and to such a quality building in our headquarters region,” Thomas W. Butch, president of the financial services firm, said in a statement. “We are building this space with state of the art technology in an inviting environment.”

The Plaza Vista office building was completed last year by VanTrust Real Estate, and about 450 employees of Polsinelli completed their move there last fall. The building replaced the failed West Edge office project. The Plaza Vista development also includes an underground garage and the 132-room Hotel Sorella, which also opened last fall.

Dimensional Innovations, Inc., an Overland Park design and fabrication firm, will assist with the environmental graphics and touch-screen technology in the lobby area outside the Waddell & Reed office.
