Northland’s new Boot Barn offers boots and much more
It was a pretty safe bet that the guy in boots and a cowboy hat, recently climbing out of a truck near the Northland’s The Village at Shoal Creek, was headed to the new Boot Barn.
Indeed, about a third of the store is filled with boots and it has rows of cowboy hats in a variety of styles. But the chain, a Western and work wear retailer, also has stocked the 9,000-square-foot space at 8353 N. Booth Ave. with so much more.
There are home decor items including decorative crosses and coffee cup holders shaped like horseshoes, and wooden signs with such sayings as “Life is better with a cowboy” or “Home is where your horse is.” The store sells silver and turquoise jewelry, shiny silver belt buckles alongside long-sleeved lace shirts, hoodies with the words “Cowgirl Up” on the front, tank tops and handbags, toy horse stables and toy John Deere tractors, caps with the Jack Daniel’s logo, and waterproof oilskin dusters.
Brands include Wrangler, Ariat, Justin, Carhartt, Dr. Martens, Dan Post, Resistol, Montana Silversmiths, Miss Me, Wolverine, Timberland PRO, Cinch, Georgia Boot, and Tony Lama.
Boot Barn was founded in 1978 and now has 201 stores in 29 states, including new area Boot Barn locations in Blue Springs and Olathe, and some stores still opeating under the Sheplers brand.
Boot Barn recently acquired the Wichita-based Sheplers chain and it is converting a south Kansas City Sheplers to the Boot Barn concept.
The Village at Shoal Creek also is home to a Sprouts Farmers Market and Party City. Old Chicago Pizza & Taproom plans an October opening.
Northland restaurant updates
▪ Jazz, A Louisiana Kitchen is in expansion mode.
It plans an early October opening for its new location in Lawrence. But it also is looking at locations in the Liberty area, as well as Blue Springs and Leawood.
Vic Allred opened the first Jazz in 1986 in Lubbock, Texas. He added a Kansas City location in 1994 on 39th Street’s restaurant row, and later opened locations in Columbia, Omaha and Kansas City, Kan., with partners. Menu items include blackened chicken and blackened steak, fried catfish, soups and salads, as well as daily specials.
▪ The locally owned Spices Asian Restaurant opened in late June at 2417 Burlington St. in North Kansas City. Menu items include Asian BBQ Baby Back Ribs, Roasted Duck Phad Grapow, Lasak Curry Seafood Noodle Soup, Fried Shrimp with Sweet Potato Salad, and appetizers like crispy garlic chicken wings.
▪ Qdoba Mexican Grill is scheduling a late fall opening at 9300 N.E. Barry Road.
