Mirae Asset Group's assets under management top $1 trillion
SEOUL, June 12 (UPI) -- South Korea's Mirae Asset Group said Friday its assets under management surpassed $1 trillion mark as of the end of last month for the first time in its 30-year history.
The Seoul-based financial conglomerate noted that its domestic assets totaled $757.1 billion as of May, while overseas assets stood at $259 billion.
By affiliate, Mirae Asset Securities and Mirae Asset Global Investments accounted for the bulk of the total, with $531.3 billion and $451.6 billion, respectively. The former is South Korea's leading brokerage house, while the latter ranks as the world's 11th-largest exchange-traded fund manager.
Mirae Asset said that its assets grew from $442.6 billion at the end of 2022 to $516.6 billion in 2023. The figure climbed to $601.7 billion in 2024 and $769.5 billion last year.
At a time when most Korean financial companies remained focused on savings products in the domestic market, Mirae Asset moved early into areas with long-term growth potential, including exchange-traded funds, pensions and global asset allocation.
Among its key overseas subsidiaries is Global X U.S., an exchange-traded fund platform managing roughly $100 billion in assets. Founded in New York in 2008, the company was purchased by Mirae Asset in 2018.
The group said that it currently operates a network spanning 21 markets worldwide. It is also expanding a global footprint through initiatives such as developing a global mobile trading system in Hong Kong and pursuing the acquisition of a U.S. securities firm.
Mirae Asset has also gained international recognition through early investments in innovative global companies, including SpaceX.
"Guided by our client-first principle, we will continue to provide differentiated investment opportunities to clients by leveraging the industry's largest global network," Mirae Asset said in a statement.
"We will strive to establish ourselves as a global investment specialist committed to long-term growth."
The share price of Mirae Asset Securities rose 2.35% at the Seoul bourse Friday.
