Overview

The 2025 Lucid Air electric luxury sedan is available in four trims: the RWD single-motor 430-horsepower Pure, the AWD 620-hp Touring, the AWD 819-hp Grand Touring (both dual-motor), and the AWD 1,234-hp tri-motor AWD Sapphire. They're all built on the same 900-volt electrical architecture with DC fast-charging capability of up to 200 miles in as little as 12 minutes.

At 5 miles per kWh, the Pure is the most efficient production EV, extracting 420 miles from just an 84-kWh battery. The Grand Touring tops out at an industry-leading 512 miles, making the Air ideal for people looking for the most efficient electric sedan with the longest range. In its class you'll find rivals like the Tesla Model S, BMW i5, Mercedes-Benz EQE, and the Audi e-tron GT.

What's New for 2025?

The Pure's battery shrinks from 88 to 84 kWh, but it's more efficient, getting 5 miles per kWh, so range actually increases by a single mile to 420 miles. The other changes all have to do with additional standard features, with the heat pump already fitted to the Sapphire, a surround-view camera, adaptive cruise control, and a blind-spot video display all becoming standard on all trims. The infotainment system gets a faster processor, and the Grand Touring gains a standard 21-speaker Surreal Sound Pro audio system.

Last of all, every 2025 Air gets standard complimentary maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles.

Exterior

With a drag coefficient of just 0.197, the Air is one of the most aerodynamic production cars, with pebble-smooth detailing, an arching roofline, and flush door handles. Slim LED headlights sit in a narrow horizontal slit, and the LED taillights are joined with a light bar. An available Glass Canopy roof extends over both seating rows.

The Sapphire's standard Stealth package blacks out the exterior trim and is an option on all the other trims. The clamshell hood and trunk lid are unlike anything on the road today. At 195.9 inches long on a 116.5-inch wheelbase, the Air is about the size of a Honda Accord.

Interior

A 34-inch Glass Cockpit and a retractable 12.5-inch Pilot Panel are found in all trims, and the infotainment system includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the Lucid Virtual Assistant, SiriusXM, HD Radio, a wireless charger, four USB ports, and navigation. The Pure and Touring have a 9-speaker audio system, upgradable to the 21-speaker setup that's standard on the upper trims.

Standard Pure features include heated 12-way power front seats, PurLuxe leatherette upholstery, 3-zone climate control, but optional (and standard on top trims) are heated rear seats, leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, ventilated and massaging front seats, and 4-zone climate control. The flat-floored cabin feels spacious and seats up to five people. The grand total of 74.8 cu-ft of cargo space is market-leading for a sedan, with a 10-cu-ft frunk, a 22.1-cu-ft trunk, and 64.8 cu-ft of total main-cabin cargo space with the rear seats folded.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Grand Touring's 512-mile range the longest of any EV, and the Pure at 420 miles with 146 MPGe and 5 miles per kWh is the most efficient production EV ever made
  • 900-volt DC fast charging adds 200 miles in 12 minutes (Grand Touring), and every trim exceeds 400 miles, eliminating range anxiety more completely than any competitor
  • 99 cu-ft of passenger space, the 34-inch Glass Cockpit, and build quality rivaling Mercedes deliver genuine luxury from $69,900

Cons:

  • Lucid's small service network limits access outside major metros, and the brand's long-term financial stability remains a concern for some buyers
  • The Pilot Panel lacks Android Auto and can feel less intuitive than conventional always-visible touchscreens from established competitors
  • The Sapphire at $249,000 and Grand Touring at $110,900 face stiff competition from the Tesla Model S Plaid and Porsche Taycan on brand recognition and resale

Verdict

The Lucid Air is the most efficient electric sedan ever at 5 miles per kWh for the Pure, it has the longest range of any EV at 512 miles for the Grand Touring, it has by far the most overall luggage space of 74.8 cu-ft, and the 1,234-hp Sapphire delivers a knockout performance punch. It truly rewards drivers looking for tech, performance, and range in an electric sedan.
