Kansas and Missouri are home to 11 billionaires in 2025, with two living in the Kansas City area, according to Forbes’ latest list.
The 11 have a combined net worth of $120.6 billion as of April 1. This is more money than the combined 2024-2025 state government budgets for Kansas, Missouri and Iowa, according to data from the Urban Institute.
Kansas and Missouri added one billionaire since last year — Joplin roofing heir David Humphreys — and the local billionaires’ total wealth increased $18.1 billion.
The United States has the most billionaires, 902, who are worth a total of $6.8 trillion. That is more than the GDPs of India, Brazil and Poland combined, according to most recent World Bank data.
In the last year, the United States’ billionaires gained a total of $1.1 trillion in wealth and welcomed 89 people into their ranks.
An individual with a net worth of a billion dollars has over 5,000 times the wealth of the median American household: $192,000 net worth, according to the most recent data from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.
