Drink coffee, make art at new NKC shop
North Kansas City’s Luna Coffeehouse and Dare to Dabble — have packed a lot of options under one roof.
Erin Rosales owns the coffee shop in the front half of the space at 1329 Swift St.
The coffee shop serves a variety of coffee drinks, including Turkish coffee, as well as mixed drinks, wine, pastries, and chocolate bars by Moonstruck Chocolate Co. in Portland, Ore., including such unique flavors as dark chocolate strawberry basil bark bar and dark chocolate praline pecan and ginger bark bar.
The front space also features the Handmade and Local Market, which offers gifts and home decor items made by Kansas City area artists, including art prints, custom ceramics, wall clocks and more.
Rosales also is a partner with Sheryl Godsy in Dare to Dabble, a teaching art studio in the back half of the space.
Dare to Dabble allows people of all ages a chance to “dabble” in a variety of creative medium. It has guided paint classes, open studio time for a small hourly fee, weekly workshops and an art club for school-aged children. It also has more than 100 bases (wooden letters, boxes, picture frames, wooden stools, large papier mâché figurines from piggy banks to dinosaurs and more) for customers to paint, decoupage or mosaic. And it offers classes in jewelry making, glass painting, and embroidery with fiber art.
Those who are drinking age can sip Luna’s mixed drinks or wine while they paint, so it has become a popular happy hour hangout.
“People want to be makers, they want to create things,” said Rosales, who formerly taught art classes for K-12 in the Kansas area school districts. “We have the supplies, we have everything here and we are here to help guide you through the process.”
Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. It is closed Sundays and Mondays.
It also will host events for birthdays, showers and corporate team building sessions. Fees start at $200 for eight people.
