Post Coffee Company opened its new midtown location this month in the building at 3550 Broadway Blvd. that used to be home to Monarch Coffee, which closed both of its brick and mortar locations in October.

Post Coffee Company is making its midtown debut by reviving the space and continuing to serve coffee, pastries and other goods.

“All of our shops are kind of on the outskirts of Kansas City, and this would be our first one right in the middle and so it was a new location and a new opportunity for us,” said Levi Holland, Post Coffee Company’s co-owner and roaster. “So we decided to take it.”

Post has been around for eight years and has four other locations in Lee’s Summit, North Kansas City and Kansas City’s Westside.

Post Coffee took over the space just five days after Monarch closed its doors on Oct. 30. Not too much has changed about the space, and Holland said he intends to keep it that way for the most part.

Holland said that since Monarch had done such a beautiful job creating the space itself, he doesn’t plan to make any major changes to the look or feel of the building.

“The midtown location is already just very beautiful. So it’s just going to be subtle changes that make it more our brand, nothing huge, but we’ll be making it so some things feel more authentically ours,” Holland said.

Similar to Monarch, Post Coffee also takes its role in the community very seriously and aspires to be a place of stability for the communities that it serves. Post Coffee’s culture for community is part of why Monarch co-owners Tyler and Jaime Rovenstine reached out to Post Coffee to take over the Broadway location.

“When Tyler and Jamie from Monarch reached out saying that they were closing their business and they had respect for us and saw that we had similar values with how we conduct our business,” Holland said. “They reached out to see if we wanted to come in after they were closing.”

Some changes that customers can expect will be on the menu. Holland said aside from selections like drip coffee and fresh pastries, customers can now stop by to grab a filling breakfast burrito.

Holland said that each of Post Coffee’s five locations typically offer some location specific specialty drinks and coffees that customers can try, but overall the company offers a menu that is consistent across all locations.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue excellence in this space and are excited to share it with you and get to know the neighborhood,” Post Coffee Company posted on Facebook.
