For the first time ever, all Hy-Vee retail stores will be closed for Thanksgiving, the grocery chain announced Tuesday.

All Hy-Vee grocery, Dollar Fresh Market, Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh, Wall to Wall Wine and Spirits and Hy-Vee Wine & Spirits locations will close Nov. 24 for the first time in the company’s 92-year history, so that more than 80,000 employees “can enjoy the holiday with their friends and family,” the company said in a news release.

At Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh locations, customers can still pay at the pump for gas on Thanksgiving Day.

“The last several years have been some of the most challenging our employees have experienced and this is our way of showing our appreciation for everything they do on a daily basis to serve our customers,” said Hy-Vee CEO and President Jeremy Gosch in the news release. “By closing our stores on Thanksgiving Day, we can give back to our employees by providing them time to focus on their own celebrations.”

Anyone purchasing a holiday meal pack can schedule a time to pick it up in-store ahead of the holiday or for curbside pickup between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
