Euronet buys Malaysia-based money transfer company

A subsidiary of Leawood-based Euronet Worldwide Inc. has acquired a money transfer company in Malaysia, opening new markets for the company’s operations.

Ria Money Transfer, which Euronet acquired in 2006, bought IME (M) Sdn Bhd, and some related companies, that does business as International Money Express. Terms of the deal include cash and shares of Euronet, though the announcement did not disclose details.

Euronet said the acquisition opens “the important Asian and Middle East” money transfer markets to Ria.
