CenterPoint breaks ground on new terminal
A major national retail chain will have a large truck terminal in the CenterPoint Intermodal Center in south Kansas City, but the parties are keeping the retailer’s identity under wraps for now.
CenterPoint Properties, developer of the former Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base site in south Kansas City, announced a groundbreaking for the 55,950-square-foot distribution center.
“We have a confidentiality contract to not reveal the name until it opens,” said Jacque Engle, spokeswoman for CenterPoint.
The terminal will be on a 25.2-acre section of the intermodal center, and the tenant will have a 10-acre expansion option. The terminal will have 100 truck docks, parking for 400 trailers, a 5,000-square-foot maintenance area and parking for employees.
Plans call for eventual hiring of more than 90 full-time employees, CenterPoint said.
The CenterPoint site is served by a Kansas City Southern rail line as well as highway access to Missouri Highway 150 and Interstate 49.
Kansas City Mayor Sly James said the new terminal will represent a significant investment in Kansas City by the unnamed tenant.
