UMKC begins $21.5 million science lab renovation
The University of Missouri-Kansas City is undertaking a $21.5 million modernization of its primary biology and chemistry teaching laboratories, facilities that haven’t been upgraded since the 1980s.
Renovation will be aided by state legislation that includes $18.3 million for UMKC’s Spencer Chemistry Building and Biological Sciences Building. The money comes from about $160 million in bond funds for use on college and university projects around the state.
University officials said the Spencer building, built in 1968, houses labs for a wide range of instruction in science and medicine. The renovations of 75,000 square feet of laboratory space are to be finished by July 2018.
