Kansas City area to observe Manufacturing Day
Some Kansas City area students will get tours Friday to observe classrooms and job sites in the manufacturing sector.
Visits to Dimensional Innovations in Overland Park, A&E Custom Manufacturing in Kansas City, Kan., and the General Motors Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas City, Kan., are planned in connection with the third annual Manufacturing Day.
The invitation-only events are coordinated by Social Impact Technology & Engineering, a nonprofit organization founded in 2014 to educate urban youth about options in science, technology engineering and math.
Kelly Services and the Metropolitan Community College-Business & Technology Center also will offer tours and presentations at the center about women in manufacturing. Tours at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. will bookend a program at 1775 Universal Ave.
The Kansas City Kansas Community College-Technical Education Center also is sponsoring high-school student tours.
