Epiq Systems reports profit

Epiq Systems Inc. on Tuesday reported a first-quarter profit, after posting a loss in the year-earlier period.

The Kansas City, Kan.-based software and services provider for the legal industry said it earned $1.7 million in the quarter that ended March 31. That’s up from a loss of $2.3 million in 2014’s first quarter when the company reported one-time expenses related to a data center consolidation, an executive reorganization and acquisitions.

Epiq said total revenue in the first quarter fell to $107.8 million from $116.2 million in the year-earlier period.
