California-based solar energy company Sungevity is holding both a hiring event and office unveiling Thursday in Kansas City.

The newly arrived company has scheduled an invitation-only ribbon-cutting, speeches and tours of its new offices at 1100 Main St. beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Remarks are planned by officials from the company, the city of Kansas City and the Kansas City Area Development Council.

Sungevity chose to expand in Kansas City after a national site selection process. It is locating a new sales and operations center in 82,000 square feet of the City Center Square office building.

Also on Thursday at a separate location, 1621 Locust St., Sungevity will hold a hiring event beginning at 4:30 p.m. The company says it aims to provide 600 jobs within five years. Currently it employs 25 people locally.

The hiring event includes remarks by Sungevity officials and a “meet and greet” opportunity before on-site interviewing.

The company is looking for solar marketing specialists, solar consultants, customer care representatives and accounting professionals, among other positions. The hiring event is set to conclude at 7 p.m.
