HNTB adding 40 jobs at downtown KC headquarters

HNTB Corp., which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, is expanding its downtown Kansas City headquarters and adding about 40 jobs.

The Missouri Department of Economic Development on Monday announced the engineering and design firm had signed a 15-year lease extension for its office at 715 Kirk Drive and was planning a capital investment of more than $4.3 million.

The state said it was providing an incentive package that the company will receive if it meets job creation and investment guidelines.

HNTB has more than 540 employees in the region, including about 380 at its headquarters. The company has been in the building since 2001.

Some HNTB employees also work in another downtown building at Twelth and Wyandotte streets, and the firm has an office n Overland Park.

Brian Cox, an HNTB spokesman, said the headquarters building has the capacity to add about 120 more employees. “Plans are being developed for how the capital investment dollars will be utilized,” Cox said.

The employee-owned company, which was founded in 1914, was recently ranked as the 21st-largest engineering firm in the country, according to Engineering News-Record. HNTB posted about $856 million in revenue in 2013, the trade publication said.

HNTB has offices in 28 states.

“One hundred years ago, our founders realized that Kansas City was a great place to do business and the same still holds true today,” Tom O’Grady, HNTB’s Central Division president said in a statement.
