Animal healthcare company sold

A California-based veterinary laboratory company, which has an operation in Olathe, is being acquired by one of the nation’s largest animal healthcare companies.

Antech Diagnostics Inc. is buying Abaxis Veterinary Reference Laboratory for $21 million in a transaction that’s scheduled to be completed the end of March. Abaxis has an operation at 14830 W. 117th St.

The reference laboratory is a unit of Abaxis Inc. Antech is the laboratory division of VCA Inc., which operates a large nationwide network of veterinary hospitals and clinical laboratories.
