Trader Joe’s recalls raw walnuts
Trader Joe’s Co. is recalling five varieties of raw walnuts nationwide because they may be contaminated with salmonella, a bacterial disease that causes fever, diarrhea and vomiting.
The recall includes its bags of raw California walnut pieces; halves and pieces; baking pieces; premium walnut halves; and organic halves and pieces, the company said in a statement on Tuesday. Salmonella can lead to fatal infections for young children and the elderly.
Trader Joe’s, which has two Kansas City area stores, has received no reports of illness from the products.
“Out of an abundance of caution, all lots of these products have been removed from store shelves and their sale has been suspended while the source of the issue is identified,” the supermarket chain said.
