Kansas City’s Price Chopper says it’s not us.

The area grocer on Wednesday said reports of it being acquired by industry giant Albertsons Companies are false.

“All Kansas City-based Price Choppers will remain under current local ownership,” the grocer said in a news release. “There are no current plans, nor intentions, to sell any stores.”

The confusion surfaced because a grocery store chain based in Schenectady, N.Y., that also operates under the Price Chopper name is reportedly in talks to be acquired by Albertsons.

Price Chopper’s 51 area stores are locally owned by the Ball, Cosentino, McKeever and Queen families.
