Town & Country customers: Hang on to your Thanksgiving Day trash
WCA/Town & Country Disposal won’t pick up trash on Thanksgiving Day this year, a break from its past practice. Except in Harrisonville.
The company, now part of WCA Corp., said it will handle its Thursday routes on Friday next week. And that will push the Friday trash pickup routes to Saturday.
Thursday service in Harrisonville will continue uninterrupted even on Thanksgiving Day, WCA said.
“We know that most of our residential customers are used to receiving solid waste collection service on every holiday,” Bob Mathis, district manager of WCA said in the company’s announcement. “But after some internal discussions, we decided to join the other haulers in the Kansas City market in observing the Thanksgiving holiday and letting our employees stay with their families that day.”
Starting next year, Town & Country also will treat Christmas Day and New Year’s Day as holidays and move routes that day to the next day. The shift doesn’t apply this year because both holidays fall on a Sunday when the company does not run any routes.
Most other curbside services already treat Thanksgiving Day as a holiday, moving Thursday and Friday service each to the next day. These include Deffenbaugh, which is part of Waste Management Inc.; Ted’s Trash Service; Republic Service; and Constable Sanitation.
