The Manufacturing Institute is honoring 130 women, including one from the Kansas City area, as emerging leaders in the manufacturing industry.
The institute plans to honor the group with Women in Manufacturing STEP Ahead awards on March 26 in Washington. STEP refers to careers in science, technology, engineering and production.
Among those to be honored is Lindsey Chapman, a Procter & Gamble operations manager in Kansas City, Kan.
The awards are part of the larger initiative to promote the role of women in manufacturing. According to recent research, women make up about half of today’s labor force but only about 25 percent of the manufacturing workforce. The institute is part of the National Association of Manufacturers.
