YRC Worldwide earnings reflect ‘soft industrial backdrop’
Overland Park-based trucking company YRC Worldwide Inc. reported a 30 percent drop in its third-quarter profits Thursday.
Management, in the company’s announcement, cited a “soft industrial backdrop” and lower revenues from fuel surcharges than it saw a year ago. The company acknowledged that tonnage of freight was down from last year but said the decline for the quarter was the smallest in “several quarters.”
YRC’s $13.9 million profit in July, August and September equaled 42 cents a share. A year ago, the company had earned $19.8 million, or 61 cents a share, in the third quarter.
Revenues of $1.22 billion were down 1.9 percent from the quarter a year ago.
