Federal grant to help train truck drivers in Kansas City area
Johnson County Community College has received a $104,376 grant to provide 25 full-ride scholarships for up to 25 veterans or their immediate family members to complete a 10-week Professional Truck Driving Program.
The funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration will apply to a program beginning in February 2017 that leads to a commercial driver’s license.
A shortage of professional truck drivers in the Kansas City area has led to a number of delivery and service problems in various industries.
Information about the program is available from Josh Smith, JCCC’s program director of transportation, at 913-469-4446 or jsmith10@jccc.edu.
