Cerner introduces ‘living lab’ for its employees in India
Cerner Corp. has spread to India its efforts to provide employees with convenient access to health care focused on disease prevention.
The Kansas City-based health care technology company said Wednesday that it has opened a “Healthe at Cerner Center” for about 2,200 Cerner associates at its Manyata office campus in Bangalore, India.
The center, which mirrors employee-based health services Cerner provides its Kansas City area employees, includes a health clinic, a fitness center and additional health-coaching and educational offerings.
Julie Wilson, Cerner’s chief people officer, said the Healthe concept shows that Cerner “is more than a health information technology company. We’re a company focused on putting the individual at the center of health care, which starts with our associates.”
Cerner uses employee health data to continue its research into what preventive care and what treatments produce the best health outcomes. The company’s focus on “population health” builds on its access to such data to help encourage best health care practices.
“This is our living lab where we are bringing health care providers and technology together to actively manage the health of our associates,” said Rama Nadimpalli, general manager of Cerner India.
Nadimpalli said Cerner’s research into “consumer-driven” health care will be available to health care organizations globally.
Cerner’s Healthe clinic in Bangalore will be staffed by clinicians from Manipal Hospital, part of a network of 15 hospitals in southern India. The fitness center will be staffed by Zela Health Clubs, described as a leader in the “luxury fitness industry in India.”
The Manyata campus site is the first Healthe at Cerner Center established outside of the Kansas City area.
