First responders have recovered the body of a kayaker who went missing in Clinton Lake near Lawrence Sunday night.
The Douglas County Underwater Search and Recovery team found the body of the kayaker, a 20-year-old Olathe man, Monday morning near the Clinton Marina, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said. The sheriff’s office did not identify the man publicly as of Monday morning.
Rescue crews were called to the area around 5:30 p.m. Sunday after a report came in about a person whose kayak had tipped over. Searchers worked in the area through the evening and paused around 9 p.m. because of darkness. They resumed searching Monday morning and found the body near where witnesses reported he went under the water.
“The Sheriff’s Office offers condolences to the man’s family and friends,” the department said in a social media post.
