Kansas trash collector injured in explosion on the job. Bomb squad investigates

An Ottawa trash collector was injured in an explosion Monday morning.

Police received a call just before 6 a.m. that the garbage collector was at work compacting trash in the truck when there was an explosion. An object from the explosion hit the trash collector, and they drove to a hospital with minor injuries.

The Olathe Fire Department bomb squad was contacted and responded to help with the investigation.

Ottawa police and fire officials, the Olathe bomb squad and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are working to investigate the incident.

Police said there is no ongoing threat to the community.
