Scooter driver critically injured after swerving to avoid child in Go-Kart: KC police
The driver of a scooter was hospitalized after swerving to avoid colliding with a child driving a Go-Kart Thursday afternoon in Kansas City, police said.
Police were called to the scene of a crash at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the 300 block of Van Brunt Boulevard, according to the Kansas City Police Department.
According to a crash summary, a person driving a green and red Honda scooter was headed northbound on Van Brunt Boulevard “at a high rate of speed” just prior to the crash.
At the same time, a child driving a black caged Go-Kart was crossing Van Brunt Boulevard from east to west, police said.
“As the (Go-Kart) entered the northbound lanes of Van Brunt, the operator of the Honda conducted a faulty evasive maneuver, causing the operator of the Honda to be ejected off the scooter,” police said.
The driver of the Honda, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to the hospital with critical injuries, police said. The scooter never collided with the Go-Kart, and the child was not physically injured.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
No additional information, including the age of the child or the identity of the injured victim, were released.
