Child killed, 4 other passengers hospitalized in Interstate 29 crash in Platte County

A child was killed Saturday in a car wreck on Interstate 29, officials said.

A Toyota Prius with two adults and two young children was stopped in traffic near mile marker 19.6 when a Ford Explorer headed north on the interstate struck the Prius from behind, Missouri State Highway Patrol tweeted about 7:15 p.m. Saturday.

One of the children, whose age has not yet been released, died in the crash, according to the highway patrol. The other three occupants of the Prius and the driver of the Explorer were taken to the hospital with injuries.

Two other vehicles were also hit in the crash, but their drivers weren’t injured, officials said.
