After three days of triple digit increases, KC area confirms 98 new COVID-19 cases
The Kansas City metro area recorded 98 new cases of COVID-19 Saturday, reaching 5,563 total confirmed cases of the rapidly spreading virus.
One new death was recorded in Kansas City Saturday, bringing the total to 204 for the area encompassing Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas.
The increase of just under 100 cases follows three consecutive days of triple digit jumps in the area.
73 new cases of the virus were reported on both Monday and Tuesday, 115 were reported Wednesday, 113 on Thursday and 116 on Friday.
The largest increase of cases was reported in Wyandotte County, where 32 new cases were confirmed. Twenty-eight cases were confirmed in Jackson County, 18 were confirmed in Platte County, 16 were confirmed in Johnson County, 10 were confirmed in Kansas City and four were confirmed in Clay County.
As of Saturday, Missouri had confirmed 15,810 cases of the new coronavirus and 879 deaths. Of the patients tested for the virus in the state, 5.9% were infected, according to data from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
Kansas had confirmed 11,047 case of the virus and 243 deaths when statewide numbers were last updated Friday. Of the patients tested, 8.6% had the virus, according to Kansas Department of Health and Environment data.
Nationwide, the virus has infected more than 2 million people killing more than 115,000 according to a database maintained by Johns Hopkins University.
