One dead in 1-70 accident after SUV hits disabled semi-truck
A 59-year-old man died Saturday morning after he rear-ended a disabled semi-truck on Interstate-70 just west of Interstate-435 in Kansas City, Kansas, police said.
Kansas Highway Patrol officers were called to the scene at I-70 and 110th Street around 5:30 a.m. Saturday, said highway patrol spokeswoman Trooper Candice Breshears.
The semi-truck was disabled in a westbound lane of I-70 when an Jeep rear-ended it, killing the driver of the car, Breshears said.
Police said they do not know why the truck was disabled at this point.
The driver was identified Saturday as 59-year-old Christopher Deason of Kansas City, Kansas.
The left shoulder and left lane of westbound I-70 were closed in the area Saturday morning while officials cleared the scene.
The primary agency investigating the crash is the Kansas Turnpike Authority, Breshears said.
