Two killed, one injured in wreck involving stolen car on Interstate 70
Two people are dead and one is seriously injured after a head-on collision involving a stolen vehicle on Interstate 70 Saturday morning, police say.
Kansas City police responded to Interstate 70 at the 23rd Street on-ramp just before 5 a.m. Saturday.
A Ford Fusion, which was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of the highway, had collided head-on with a Chevrolet Trailblazer.
The driver and passenger in the Ford were killed by the crash. The passenger, a 24-year-old Kansas City woman, died at the scene. The driver, a 25-year-old Kansas City man, died from his injuries at the hospital.
The driver of the Chevrolet was transported to the hospital in serious condition.
Before the wreck police had been pursuing one of the vehicles, according to Kansas City Police Spokesman Capt. Tim Hernandez.
The vehicle, Hernandez said, was reported stolen out of Independence. Police, he said, stopped the chase prior to the crash.
Police did not respond to questions about which vehicle was being pursued and the reason the chase was ended in time for publication.
Eastbound Interstate 70 was closed in the area until 8:15 a.m. Saturday morning.
