While many cruisers begin to pack their bags to celebrate America's 250th anniversary with big America250 bashes at sea on Carnival cruise ships, "America's Cruise Line" is already preparing for another one of America's favorite holidays: Halloween.

About 73% of Americans participated in Halloween celebrations in 2025, a number that increased by 10% over the last 10 years, according to research from Statista. As the holiday's popularity grows, so does Halloween tourism.

Halloween lovers are increasingly drawn to unique travel experiences that summon them to extend spooky season with immersive haunted attractions, tours, and themed events - including Halloween cruises.

These days you no longer have to cruise on Oct. 31 to experience the thrills and chills of celebrating Halloween at sea. Carnival and a few other cruise lines transform onboard venues into haunts for Halloween-themed entertainment all October long - with some sailings even offering Halloween fun in September.

What to expect on Carnival's Halloween cruises

Carnival's Frightfully Fun Halloween cruises are family friendly and feature Halloween decorations, festive food and beverages, and themed activities for all ages. Both kids and adults are encouraged to pack a costume if they want to participate in special events like costume contests and themed dance parties. Plus, there's trick-or-treating, Halloween crafts and games, and other activities for kids.

Passengers can also get a photo with Carnival's 12-foot-tall Halloween character, Patch the Pumpkin Pirate. During the 2026 Halloween season, Patch will be haunting all ships in the Carnival fleet with the exception of Carnival Luminosa, Carnival Legend, and Carnival Freedom due to travel logistics.

For many who have sailed on Frightfully Fun cruises with Carnival in past years, the best part of the experience is dressing up for events and contests and seeing all the creativity that passengers put into their Halloween cruise costumes.

"I've been on many Halloween cruises. I love it. I love the fact that I could dress up in costume. And it amazes me when I get picked to go on stage. I love when the kids or even the grown-ups want to take pictures with me it is such a fun time. If you haven't cruised on Halloween, you must do it at least once," Maureen McNally shared in the comments on Heald's post.

"My Halloween sailing was one of my most memorable cruises. Loved to see all the people in their costumes. Such creativity," Susan Duplantis Saucier added.
