The Star’s food section has new look, name and more offerings

We have a new look in print for a new year.

But the changes we’re unveiling today have been simmering for some time.

In 2013, we launched a daily food blog called Chow Town. Moderated and written by The Star’s food and drink experts and a community of guest culinary voices, the blog has proved to be a hit with readers. So we’ve decided to rename the Food section Chow Town to bring all our food coverage under the same umbrella.

Some changes have already been in place. Last fall we started featuring restaurant reviews in the section and added a new reviewer, Tyler Fox, a personal chef and blogger. He will add his voice to mine as we cover the city’s ever-expanding restaurant scene. A few weeks ago Sarah Gish’s “Dish With Gish” column moved in as well. Sarah will continue to scout the city for roundups of ready-to-eat fare ranging from fancy doughnuts to gourmet hot chocolate.

We’re also adding columns: The first, featuring cookbooks, is from Andrews McMeel, a locally based publisher. You’ll also hear what’s up in Italy’s kitchen from Kansas City-based restaurateur and national TV personality Lidia Bastianich.

This year also marks the 60th birthday of the “Come Into My Kitchen” column, long written by Mary Pepitone, and who can argue with that kind of staying power? Anne Brockhoff‘s award-winning column will continue to zero in on craft cocktail and bar trends but under the new name “Blithe Spirits” (a Noel Coward reference).

We hope you’ll like the changes we’ve made to our James Beard award-winning section. As always, we welcome your feedback at
