Yelp says these are the top dive bars in Kansas City. Did yours make the list?
In case you missed it, National Dive Bar Day was July 7. But that doesn’t mean it’s too late to hang out at your favorite watering hole around the Kansas City area.
Cheap drinks, regular patrons and good times are staples inside dives, and if you’re looking for a place to visit, crowd-sourced review website Yelp recently updated its list of the best dive bars in Kansas City. Whether you agree that these qualify as dive bars is another topic, but here are the five highest-rated bars, according to Yelp.
Jim’s Alley Bar
- 500 E. 18th St.
- 4.7 out of 5 stars on Yelp
Yelp reviews say the service is amazing, incredibly kind and friendly inside Jim’s Alley Bar, which shares a kitchen and ownership with King G in the Crossroads. One compared it to going to your uncle’s basement man cave, but that it’s much cleaner.
Green Lady Lounge

- 4.5 out of 5 stars on Yelp
The music inside the jazz bar in downtown Kansas City is the main attraction, but the space was the highlight to one Yelp review, who said the Green Lady Lounge’s ambiance has a real character to it.
The Piano Room
- 332 W. 75th St.
- 4.4 out of 5 stars on Yelp
The dive bar in the Waldo neighborhood underwent renovations last year, and has since welcomed back everyone with its weekly trivia and karaoke nights. One review on Yelp called The Piano Room the best neighborhood hangout in Waldo.
P R’s Place
- 1741 Washington St.
- 4.4 out of 5 stars on Yelp
P R’s Place is found in the Crossroads and is known for its Taco Tuesday special, said one reviewer. You can get the tacos anytime, however.
“Everybody in there knew everybody else. It was dark and it was dingy and the drinks were cheap and the bathroom was broken LOL,” said one review. The same reviewer said it’s the type of dive bar that they love to find.
The House
- 2701 W. 47th Ave. ,Westwood,
- 4.4 out of 5 stars on Yelp
The House earns its name for blending in within the small Johnson County community by looking like a family home on the exterior. One review noted that the indoor seating is small, but there’s extra space with outdoor seating, giving a backyard atmosphere with picnic tables and yard games.
