This longtime downtown KC bar is one of the best in the nation, USA Today says

One of the Power & Light District’s signature bars was named one of the top bars in the country in a new ranking by USA Today.

After nominations from an expert panel and a month-long voting period from their readers, USA Today revealed its list for the top 10 local sports bars in the United States. Coming in at No. 4 is No Other Pub, which celebrated its 10th anniversary inside the KC Live! Block in February.

It’s the first nomination and award the Sporting KC-themed soccer bar has received from USA Today. In its description of the bar, the news organization said it’s a high octane hangout built for both watching and playing, thanks to its many TVs and activities, like bowling, shuffleboard darts and ping pong.

“As the official home for Sporting KC watch parties, it draws energetic crowds and big match atmospheres,” USA Today said. “Online reviewers praise the variety of games, the lively staff, and the way the space works equally well for die hard fans and casual groups.”

No Other Pub is located at 1370 Grand Blvd., on the second level of the KC Live! Block. The 21,000-square-foot bar hosts happy hours from 4-7 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays and a late night happy hour from 10 p.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays when the bar is open. Visitors can also enjoy half-price games all day on Sundays.

These bars finished ahead of No Other Pub:

  • No. 1: A Bar of Their Own; Minneapolis
  • No. 2: Bleacher Bar; Boston
  • No. 3: Neighbors; Nashville, Tennessee

No Other Pub ranked ahead of two Chicago Cubs-themed bars: Cubby Bear (No. 6) and Murphy’s Bleachers (No. 7), both located in Chicago. It also finished better than the Elbo Room (No. 5), a bar in Fort, Lauderdale, Florida centered around the Florida Panthers.

“Local sports bars create a unique experience that can turn every game day into a community event, where everyone might indeed know your name —and that’s what it’s all about: great food and drinks, games, and an atmosphere that fits the local vibe,” USA Today said on its website.
