This Kansas City chocolate shop is one of the best in the country, Yelp says
Crowdsourced review website Yelp called on to its elite members to rank the best places to get chocolate treats in the United States, and the reviews say one of the top spots is in Kansas City.
Yelp’s elite squad, who gain elite status by frequently giving recommendations and reviews on the website, named the top 50 chocolate spots in the United States and Canada and coming in at No. 3 was Christopher Elbow Chocolates, the Kansas City-based treat shop opened by its namesake in the early 2000s.
“Handcrafted chocolate bonbons, gourmet chocolate nuts, and luscious drinking chocolates are just a few of the many rich chocolate products offered,” Yelp said. “Make any celebration extra special by gifting a stunning box of chocolate bonbons or craft chocolate bars.”
Christopher Elbow visitors can purchase chocolate bars made with cocoa beans from different countries, like Colombia, Dominican Republic, Madagascar and Vietnam . The confections’ category offers peanut butter cups and spiced dark chocolate-covered almonds, and its signature chocolate bonbon boxes include infused ganaches and caramels.
The chocolate can be bought at several locations throughout Kansas City, including Made in KC, Cosentino’s, The Roasterie Café and A Thyme For Everything.
There are also storefronts in San Francisco and Breckenridge, Colorado.
The two chocolate shops that finished above Christopher Elbow Chocolates are JinJu Patisserie in Portland, Oregon, and Manoa Chocolate Hawaii in Kailua.
The shop has a 4.7 out of 5-star rating on Yelp with 247 reviews. Its Kansas City location is at 1819 McGee St., where it’s open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every Monday through Saturday.
Elbow started crafting his gourmet chocolates in small space above a Southwest Boulevard restaurant in 2003, according to past Star reporting. In addition to chocolate, he also created combination ice cream and doughnut shop Fairway Creamery in 2019, which he sold in 2022.
His shop was also one of the first in Kansas City to assist in creating marijuana-infused chocolate products in 2020.
