If you liked the Immersive Van Gogh exhibit or have plans to go to the Immersive King Tut exhibit in September out at Zona Rosa, there’s a third, family-friendly exhibit to keep an eye on.

While it’s still summer, organizers are already planning for the holidays with “The Immersive Nutcracker: A Winter Miracle,” opening on Nov. 19 on the second floor of The Grove building.

Based on E.T.A. Hoffman’s 1816 fairytale, the exhibit will feature animated characters alongside footage of professional ballet dancers. The building will be covered in over 500,000 cubic feet of projections with over 1 million video frames, all displaying the tale of the Nutcracker from start to finish.

The 30-minute experience is set to classical scores like “The March of the Toys,” “The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy,” and more. It will use projection mapping to tell the story of Marie and her nutcracker toy who comes alive to battle the Mouse King and takes her on an enchanted, holiday-themed adventure.

Previous immersive exhibits focused on visual art and the life of notable figures, such as Vincent van Gogh. Svetlana Dvoretsky, a producer with the exhibit, said they wanted to provide a family-friendly experience this holiday season that is uplifting and fun for kids, especially the younger ones.

“Like so many others, I have grown up with the tradition of enjoying the Nutcracker story,” Dvoretsky said in a statement. “This production does not replace any of those classics, but it provides a family-friendly experience that pays homage to the story’s ballet roots.”

WHERE DO I GET TICKETS?

Tickets go on sale Friday at 3 p.m. on the exhibit’s website. Individual tickets start at $29.99. Family pack prices are 10% off per ticket and must be bought in bundles of four or more.
