Bob Dylan performs in KC on the Fourth of July. What to know before you go
It makes sense that one of the greatest American songwriters is performing on the Fourth of July. Why he landed on Kansas City for the date is unknown, but if you’re looking for something to do on the holiday, tickets are still available.
Folk music icon Bob Dylan brings his Long Hot Summer Tour to Starlight Theatre on Independence Day. It’s an extension of what fans have called The Never Ending Tour, named after his relentless tour schedule that has seen him perform hundreds of shows every year since 1988.
The 85-year-old artist pushed the folk genre to unseen limits through his lyricism over his 69-year career. Dylan received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2016 for having “created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.”
Starlight is also showcasing a fireworks display after the show, which will affect concertgoers and where they need to enter and exit. Here’s what to know before you go.
How much are Bob Dylan tickets?
Tickets for Dylan’s show in Kansas City are available on Starlight’s website in every section: orchestra, box, plaza and terrace.
Here’s how much each section costs:
- Orchestra: $198.75
- Box: $173.75
- Plaza: $75.75-$141
- Terrace: $59.25-$75.75
Where can I park at Starlight Theatre?
General parking is available free at Starlight Theatre, in lots surrounding the outdoor venue. Premium parking spots are sold out.
Depending on when you arrive, you will be directed to the red, green, purple or yellow lots on concrete or the north and south grass lots.
Because of preparations for the post-show fireworks display, the Meyer Boulevard entrance will be closed on both sides. You should enter the venue through the north side on 63rd Street or the south side on Elmwood Avenue through Gregory Boulevard.
Is Dylan the only performer?
Dylan is the headlining act, and he’s joined by two other performers: Lucinda Williams and The John Doe Folk Trio.
The show begins at 7 p.m., and Starlight says it's a phone-free show that will be “strictly enforced.”
“Please do not attempt to take photographs, videos, or recordings of any kind during the performances,” Starlight says.
With over 600 songs written, it’s a mystery as to what Dylan will play. Recent concerts have not included some of his biggest hits, like “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door,” “Like a Rolling Stone” and “Hurricane.”
Can I bring a bag inside Starlight Theatre?
Starlight has a clear bag policy similar to the policy enforced by the Kansas City Chiefs at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
Visitors can only bring in:
- Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches
- One-gallon clear zip-seal bag (Ziploc bag or similar)
- Small clutch bags that do not exceed 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches
