Did Kansas City win Cardi B’s mute challenge? Here’s how the crowd performed
The Kansas City crowd had the T-Mobile Center booming for Cardi B. Unfortunately, they were a little too loud at the wrong time.
The hip-hop artist brought her Little Miss Drama Tour to Kansas City on Tuesday, where she was able to keep the sold-out crowd engaged for roughly 2 1/2 hours despite feeling under the weather.
“This s--- is packed to the brim,” Cardi said during her set .
But then it was time for the ultimate test to see who was really paying attention : the Pretty & Petty challenge.
For those who aren’t caught up on the drama, Cardi started a challenge during her tour where she performs her song “Pretty & Petty,” which boasts the following line — “Name five BIA songs, gun pointin’ to your head.” Immediately after, the crowd is supposed to go silent for a few seconds.
The lyric is a diss toward fellow rapper BIA, as the two have had their own feud that turned into an exchange of diss tracks. Think of it like the Beyoncé mute challenge, only there’s beef behind it.
Throughout the tour, Cardi would tell the crowd if they failed the challenge by saying “eliminated” if they weren’t quiet enough. If they were silent enough for her liking, she would continue on performing without interruption.
As she got to the home stretch of the KC show, it was time to test the crowd’s listening skills. Cardi performed the first 20 seconds of the song that boasts the diss line, before standing still and putting her ear to the crowd.
“Eliminated, automatically!” she said before going back to her performance. She eliminated the crowd in about two seconds, which seemed to be enough time for her to see their hearts weren’t in it.
While the arena did tone it down a bit for the challenge, it clearly wasn’t enough for the multiplatinum artist. Other cities, such as Detroit, seemed to have gotten the OK from Cardi B during the challenge.
Look on the bright side, Kansas City: You didn’t win the Cardi B challenge, but you still have the success of the Beyoncé mute challenge back in 2023 in Arrowhead Stadium to hold onto. Ironically, Cardi had attended that same show to watch as fan.
Maybe Tuesday’s show was too exciting for fans? Who knows.
