See which Chappell Roan song made Barack Obama’s 2025 year-end playlist

Fans of Chappell Roan can now say that they have something in common with former U.S. President Barack Obama.

On Thursday, Dec. 18, Obama released his annual list of his favorite songs, books and movies from 2025. A variety of tracks appeared in the 44th president’s playlist, including songs from Lady Gaga, Bruce Springsteen, Kendrick Lamar and many more.

One of the songs that made the cut was Roan’s 2025 track, “The Giver.” The Missouri native’s single peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this year, and has over 147 million streams on Spotify.

“I hope you find something new to enjoy—and please send any recommendations for me to check out,” Obama said when he posted his lists.

Two other songs from Obama’s playlist just so happen to be very popular amongst Kansas City Spotify listeners. “Luther” by Kendrick Lamar and SZA, and “Ordinary” by Alex Warren, were featured on his list, and were also in the top five for KC’s most streamed songs of 2025, according to Spotify.

“The Giver” is just one of two songs that Roan dropped in 2025. The other song was “The Subway,” which was nominated twice at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
