Watch Paul Rudd in a ketchup costume run hot dog race at Royals game. How’d he do?
The hot dog race inside Kauffman Stadium is a time-honored tradition during Royals games. Each game, three random fans are selected to represent either ketchup, mustard or relish and try to finish the race in first place, running from the opposing team’s dugout to first base.
With Big Slick, the celebrity fundraising event for Children’s Mercy happening the weekend of Friday, May 30, and the celebrities in attendance fresh off lighting up the field during their annual softball game, one host took the opportunity to don the ketchup-themed hot dog suit.
This runner channeled his superhero background on his way to victory.
Surprising fans in the middle of the fifth inning was Kansas City native and actor Paul Rudd, who ran against two others plucked from the crowd. The fans in attendance for the Royals’ game against the Detroit Tigers erupted when the actor’s face was shown on the screen, which was noticeable from the face hole designed for the suit.
The man behind “Ant-Man” on movie screens got to display his speed in front of a packed crowd — something he couldn’t do during the softball game.
The 56-year-old Rudd was victorious in the hot dog race, leaving the competition behind by several feet. Fellow host Jason Sudeikis was later shown on the jumbotron pointing to the sky and celebrating his friend’s big win.
Big Slick’s Instagram account hinted at a surprise guest running the hot dog race on one of its stories before the 7:10 first pitch, asking fans to stick around for the “Mustard/Relish/Ketchup run and the 7th inning stretch.”
The fundraiser’s Instagram account also says the opportunity to run against Rudd in the hot dog race was one of the items auctioned off during 2024’s event.
Some might say it’s Rudd’s biggest accomplishment since being named People Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” for 2021.
