So much for that farewell tour. Legendary singer-songwriter is coming to Kansas City
Legendary singer-songwriter Paul Simon has announced he’s hitting the road for the first time in five years — and he will stop in Kansas City.
The 83-year-old will bring his A Quiet Celebration Tour to the Midland on April 26, with tickets going on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at midlandkc.com. Simon had announced in 2018 that he was retiring from touring after that year’s Homeward Bound — The Farewell Tour. Now he will play 55 shows in 20 cities starting April 4 in New Orleans.
A news release said he will play “intimate venues where the acoustics are optimal in consideration of the severe hearing loss that he incurred over the last few years.” In addition to the Midland, they will include Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, the Beacon Theater in New York and Disney Hall in Los Angeles.
The shows will feature music from his 2023 album, “Seven Psalms.”
Simon, best known for “The Sound of Silence,” “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and other hits he recorded with Art Garfunkel, has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Simon and Garfunkel and as a solo artist.
He made a splash on national television Sunday night when he opened the “Saturday Night Live” 50th anniversary special by playing “Homeward Bound” with Sabrina Carpenter.
