Kansas City things to do: Vicki Lawrence and Mama, Andrea Bocelli, new ballet season
Vicki Lawrence and her alter ego, Mama, will enjoy something of a homecoming this weekend.
Lawrence joined the cast of “The Carol Burnett Show” in 1967 because she resembled the TV show’s star and would be believable as a relative, including the popular Mama. She then starred in the spinoff “Mama’s Family,” which was set in a place called Raytown. Lawrence later revealed it was based on the Kansas City suburb.
The comedian/singer will appear at the Ameristar at 8:30 p.m. Oct. 15 in a pandemic-postponed performance. Tickets ($40-$75) and more information are available at ameristarkansascity.com.
