Former baseball star Chipper Jones apologizes for tweet saying Sandy Hook massacre was a hoax
I’m not really sure where to begin with this, but here is a tweet from Friday that former Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones has wisely deleted.
Seems Chipper won't need a Braves hat for his HOF bust, but a tinfoil one... pic.twitter.com/uXLT0hRgYX
— Dave Southorn (@IDS_Southorn) February 7, 2015 Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., is where a gunman murdered 20 children and six staff members on Dec. 14, 2012. That happened, but for some reason there are a few people who believe it was a hoax.
On Saturday, Jones finally apologized:
My apologies for my Sandy Hook tweet yest. I had heard something from someone which I thought to be credible and tweeted w/out researching.
— Chipper Jones (@RealCJ10) February 7, 2015It was irresponsible of me to do that and will not happen again. Please accept my heartfelt apology to those who were hurt or offended.
— Chipper Jones (@RealCJ10) February 7, 2015Naturally, when you tweet something as egregious as this, you’re going to get hammered on social media. That was the case Friday night.
Huh. Chipper's tweet is gone. I . . . guess they got to him too.
— Craig Calcaterra (@craigcalcaterra) February 7, 2015 Even John Rocker is like "Whoa Chipper, that's nuts."
— Matt Gianquinto (@quintoCT) February 7, 2015 Chipper is a dumb, mean jerk? Who would have guessed
— Pete Gaines (@petegaines) February 7, 2015 Brian Williams is no longer then dumbest man in America thanks to @RealCJ10. Chipper just yanked that title from Williams and owns it.
— Drunken Brian France (@DrunkBrianF) February 7, 2015 Been off Twitter for a couple hours. Did Chipper Jones do anything stupid while I was gone?
— Mike Quinn (@MightyQuinn28) February 7, 2015 Chipper Jones live look in pic.twitter.com/XqMSb5EG8P
— Harrison Lee (@HarrisonCLee) February 7, 2015 C’mon guys, Chipper isn’t a brain surgeon. #Barves
— Tom S. (@ObiWanKobe) February 7, 2015 Join me in never forgetting that, tonight, baseball legend Chipper Jones tweeted that he believes the Sandy Hook massacre was a hoax.
— Jake Christie (@TheJakeChristie) February 7, 2015 I'm glad Chipper deleted it, but he needs to apologize. Not sure if I'm more appalled by the idiocy of his tweet or the lack of sensitivity.
— Nick Richardson (@UB_Opethian) February 7, 2015 The moral of the story here is: leave Chipper Jones alone.
