For Pete's Sake

Here’s that weird play where Eric Hosmer was thrown out near second base

This kind of summed up the Royals’ night Monday against the Angels.

A terrible pitch. A catcher who can’t locate the ball. A fortuitous bounce. A late slide.

Add it all up, and Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer was out trying to advance on a wild pitch and the Angels caught a break.

Here is the play:

Garrett Richards threw a terrible pitch. Catcher Carlos Perez initially lost track of the ball, and Hosmer would have been safe had he not slid past second base.

That’s the way it goes sometimes.
