K-State president tweets congratulations to basketball team, and some fans were not happy
The Kansas State men’s basketball team played arguably its best game of the season on Wednesday.
The Wildcats thumped TCU 79-54, and school president Kirk Schulz was impressed.
So he tweeted this:
Congrats to @KStateMBB on win #16 on the season! Great effort tonight!
— Kirk H. Schulz (@kstate_pres) March 3, 2016
Perhaps this is a product of life in 2016, but this tweet did not sit well with some Kansas State fans.
@kstate_pres @KStateMBB good thing it is still only January because getting a 16th win in March is unacceptable! Keep up the good work!

A tweet that should have been sent out in January https://t.co/yq8ijwElhj

That tweet drew a response from Schulz:
Dude - enjoy the moment https://t.co/nScsdTjbiX
— Kirk H. Schulz (@kstate_pres) March 3, 2016
And ... that set off the critics again:
@kstate_pres @scottwildcat pres is right, not getting beat at home by the worst team in the league is to be celebrated under #bruceketball

@kstate_pres @scottwildcat enjoy the moment? Unbelievable. Nothing like enjoying your 5th conference winof the year in March #timeforachange

@kstate_pres @scottwildcat what moment? Did we make the tourney?

Schulz had seen enough with one fan, and tweeted this:
Enough already - BLOCK https://t.co/u41HHHjqDz
— Kirk H. Schulz (@kstate_pres) March 3, 2016
Once again, that only seemed to make the situation worse as K-State fans vented their frustrations:
@kstate_pres You should never block fans who just want a successful bball program again. Own up to your mistakes
— Blue Dream (@truroyal15) March 3, 2016
@kstate_pres @scottwildcat Ignoring your problems won't make them go away, 16-14 isn't acceptable
— Joey Shaw (@jdagg2003) March 3, 2016
@kstate_pres don't ruin football like you have basketball, also...lose your ego
— Jonathan (@JGwildcat124) March 3, 2016
On Thursday, Schulz tried to explain things with another tweet, and this one was received better from fans:
I am pretty tolerant on criticism on Twitter-but most people would not send notes to their boss at work like I get https://t.co/OfkrdJ0cyf
— Kirk H. Schulz (@kstate_pres) March 3, 2016
Schulz showed he has a sense of humor with one final tweet late Thursday morning:
It is a beautiful day in Manhattan! #NonControversialTweet
