The Tigers’ announcer got it right. This is not a textbook play.
Royals outfielder Lorenzo Cain was caught in a rundown during Sunday’s game in Detroit. The Tigers got the out, but only after a fortunate bounce off Cain’s back and to a fielder. The Tigers were concerned that Ben Zobrist, who was on third base, might break for home, that’s why they were so cautious.
If you were scoring at home, you know that was a 1-3-6-1-4 putout. But maybe it should have been a 1-3-6-1-(8)-4 putout.
