Joel Embiid has historic night on the court and on social media
Talk about a great night.
76ers star Joel Embiid put up numbers that haven’t been seen in an NBA game in at least 40 years during Philadelphia’s 115-109 win over the Lakers on Wednesday night in Los Angeles. Embiid had his postgame interview interrupted by movie star Kevin Hart. And then he won social media with a savage troll job of the Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball and his father.
That’s a lot to unpack. So let’s start with the stats.
Embiid, the former Kansas star, had 46 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists and seven blocked shots. According to ESPN, Embiid is the first player with 45 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists and seven blocks in a game since blocked shots became official in 1973-74.
By the way, Embiid needed just 20 shots to score 46 points, which is kind of crazy.
Ball had just two points in the game, and while Embiid didn’t call him out by name on Instagram, he did post this photo:
Savage. Take note that the location Embiid used was Lavar, which is the name of Ball’s father. Not sure I’ve seen anyone troll two people in such a fashion. That might be a first as well.
Embiid also got a pleasant surprise when he was being interviewed after the game. Hart barged in and said Embiid’s oft-repeated quote: “Trust the process.”
