He also showed off his versatility as a receiver, as he hauled in a deep pass from Alex Smith in team drills. Thomas beat cornerback Justin Rogers on the play, then ran through a tackle by safety Malcolm Bronson. … Quarterback Tyler Bray hit receiver Fred Williams on a go route. Cornerback Brandon Jones had the coverage. … Receiver Albert Wilson had one of the best catches of the day, as he hauled in a touchdown pass up the seam between safety Jerron McMillian and cornerback Chris Owens.

The defense

Former Brigham Young safety Daniel Sorensen got a handful of reps with the first-team defense during inside running drills. … During team drills, nose tackle Dontari Poe swatted a pass that wobbled in the air before it slipped through outside linebacker Justin Houston’s fingertips. … Cornerback Phillip Gaines is getting plenty of reps inside as a nickel cornerback in passing situations and outside in the base defense. He again batted away a handful of passes on Wednesday. … Outside linebacker Dee Ford had a sack in a goal-line situation.
