Chiefs’ 2016 schedule

The Chiefs officially released their 2016 schedule and there’s certainly no shortage of spotlight games. They’ll visit Pittsburgh for Sunday Night Football in Week 4, host the Raiders on Thursday Night Football in Week 14 and host the Broncos on Christmas night in Week 16.

Here’s the entire 2016 schedule, with a little analysis on each regular-season game:

Chiefs coach Andy Reid has won his last four games against the Chargers.

The Texans get a rematch against a Chiefs team that handed them a 30-0 loss in the wild-card round in January.

▪ New York Jets

3:25 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 25

CBS

The last time the Jets visited Arrowhead (in 2014), the Chiefs prevailed 24-10.

▪ At Pittsburgh

7:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 2

NBC

With the bye week coming after this, the Chiefs can put their full focus into beating the Steelers in prime time.

You can bet former Chiefs cornerback Sean Smith, who is now a Raider, will be fired up to face his former team.

The Chiefs’ pass defense will be tested against one of the game’s elite quarterbacks, Drew Brees.

CBS

The Chiefs once again return to the site of their 2013 wild-card nightmare. Expect a lot of “We’re looking forward …” quotes that week.

▪ Jacksonville

Noon, Sunday, Nov. 6

CBS

The Chiefs drilled the Jaguars 28-2 the last time they met (2013), but these young Jaguars have bite, especially with quarterback Blake Bortles and others taking significant steps forward last season.

▪ At Carolina

Noon, Sunday, Nov. 13

CBS

The Chiefs get an opportunity to test their wares against the 2015 NFC champion Carolina Panthers and reigning league MVP Cam Newton.

▪ Tampa Bay

Noon, Sunday, Nov. 20

Fox

One week after facing Newton, the Chiefs get an opportunity to face another former No. 1 overall pick, quarterback Jameis Winston.

3:25 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 27

CBS

The Chiefs get their first look at the Broncos, the five-time defending AFC West champions.

Noon, Sunday, Dec. 4

CBS

The Chiefs will meet former general manager Scott Pioli’s team for the first time since he was relieved of his duties after the 2012 season.

The Chiefs will have an opportunity to erase the memories of the bitter 26-10 home loss they suffered against Tennessee in their 2014 season opener.

7:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 25

NBC

The Chiefs will face one of their biggest rivals in a spotlight game on Christmas night. Former Chiefs tackle Donald Stephenson makes his first return to his hometown, too.

▪ At San Diego

3:25 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 1

CBS

In the middle of winter, it’s hard to imagine a better place to play than San Diego, where the Chiefs drilled the Chargers 33-3 last season.
