Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles most likely will play against Patriots on Monday
Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles is listed as probable on the team’s injury report for Monday night’s home game against New England, meaning he is almost certain to be available to play.
Safety Eric Berry, however, will miss his second straight game because of an ankle injury. Running back De’Anthony Thomas (hamstring) is listed as questionable to make his NFL regular-season debut.
“De’Anthony did all of stuff out here. We’ll just see how he does,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said following Saturday’s practice. “I’m probably more optimistic about Jamaal than him.”
Charles suffered a high ankle sprain in a week two loss at Denver after only two carries — an output that followed only seven carries in the season opener against Tennessee. He was held out from last Sunday’s win in Miami. Knile Davis took the reigns in the backfield and responded with a career-best 132 yards and a touchdown.
Berry also left before halftime of the game in Denver. He did not practice this week.
Ron Parker shifted from cornerback to safety — a position he played in college — to replace Berry.
